January 2021: Before the Fall, written by Jeff Rogers of the band, is set to be released as the first single from our soon-to-be released album, Strange Flight. The single will be released on most digital platforms on Friday, January 22, 2021. Before the Fall is a “story” song— there is a pretty strong narrative element to it. It’s penetrating, topical and a touch apocalyptical. It’s a cry of frustration and anger at things we can't seem to change. The style of the song could be described as idiosyncratic americana— an intersection between styles of fiddle music, Appalachian folk, jazz and blues, and The Wanted cross those genres, borders and traditions all the time. Before the Fall, with its strong melodies and harmonies, pays homage to folk traditions but isn’t at all afraid to reconstruct them.

December 2020: Michael Timmins has now completed the mixing of our new album, Strange Flight, at The Hangar, the Cowboy Junkies’ Toronto studio. And Peter J. Moore, who won a Grammy for famously salvaging the reel-to-reel tapes and mastering Bob Dylan’s The Basement Tapes, has also completed the mastering of the album. Peter’s mastering credits include Neil Young, Garth Hudson, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall, Neko Case, Bruce Cockburn, Murray McLauchlan, Finger Eleven, Sloan, and hundreds of others. Peter has also won 2 Genies, 2 Geminis and has been twice nominated for a Juno.

October 2020: This was the month we were to release Strange Flight, our new CD. We were able to get back into the Cowboy Junkies’ studio in early September during that short-lived Covid lull— masked and one at a time. So we finished recording all of the tracks. Now we’re mixing at a distance. New planned release date: March 2021. But will there be a launch tour…

*******

March 2020: So, there’s a world-wide pandemic and a lockdown throughout Canada. That pretty much burns our timetable for the release of Strange Flight, our second CD. It was planned for October, 2020. But now…

*******

October 2019: We’re in the studio planning our second record- at The Hangar, the Cowboy Junkies’ studio- with Michael Timmins producing- the songwriter, guitarist and producer for the Junkies. We’ll be releasing the album early in 2020, so stay tuned!

We are proving that downtown Duncan and the Cowichan Valley is... ‘a rather fun place to be’.

July 2018: Each year, the Mariposa Folk Festival curates a thematic compilation CD of songs of selected artists that performed at the festival that year. Mariposa established Gender Equality as this year’s theme. We’re delighted that Mariposa has selected an original song by The Wanted for the CD. “On Your Way Out”, written by Natalie and Jeff Rogers of the band, is a stylish, ‘30s style swing tune with incisive and cheeky lyrics about re-adjusting the balance between a strong woman and the man who is holding her back: “I got me a truck and a PhD, and you thought you could ride for free, but all you ever do is slow me down.” You can hear that song by clicking on our Music tab at the top of this page.
